Production of the Shelby tweaked Mustangs transferred to Ford for 1969, and the aggressive styling was wilder than ever. But performance was no better than a cheaper Mustang, and at the end of 69 nearly 800 cars remained unsold. To create the 1970 Shelby GTs, the leftover 69s were given new serial numbers
